Description

Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey is the story behind the Highclere Castle, the inspiration for the PBS Show Downton Abbey. The story follows Lady Almina, the 5th Countess of Carnarvon -- the inspiration for the character Lady Cora Crawley. Like the character of Cora Crawley, Lady Almina, the daughter of a wealthy industrialist Alfred de Rothschild, has a dowry that serves as the link pivotal to the effort to save the Earl of Carnavon's ancestral home. Opening the home to wounded participants of WWI, Lady Almina becomes a brave and remarkable woman in this story depicting the splendor of the Edwardian lifestyle.
