A unique gift!
Newportopoly© announces its Tenth Anniversary Edition, pictured above, now in local stores. The board game was developed in 2014 by The Choir School of Newport County as a fundraiser for its international educational travel fund. While hardly a new concept, a property trading game such as this is developed by locals who know the community it benefits. It is manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio by Late for the Sky Production Company, which since 1984 has designed and manufactured property trading games based on cities and communities. The Tenth Anniversary edition of 1500 limited copies of Newportopoly© benefits the Choir School's 2024 educational trip to South America. The first two editions, of 500 and 1500 copies respectively, generated $50,000 for our 2018 educational tour to England. A pandemic delayed this third edition by over two years.
A 60 word description of the institution on each property space is found on the back of each deed card, and fun touches abound in the two decks of special cards in the center of the board which either advance tokens to specific spaces, cause payments to be made to the bank, or generate gifts to be received. The “railroad” spaces are occupied by four Houses of Worship: Touro Synagogue, and the three Episcopal churches of Newport which originally combined to form The Choir School, now an independent 501(c)3 non-profit institution.
The six metal tokens are sponsored by the Newport Yacht Club (a sailboat), Audrain Automobile Museum (an antique car); Newport and Narragansett Bay Railroad (a train engine); Run Newport (a running shoe); Members of The Point Association (the Green Light lighthouse on Goat Island); and Forster Orthodontics (the Newport Bridge).
Audrain Automobile Museum is featured on the center of the board (occupied in the last edition by Newport Opera House). Houses and Mansions are again insured by Carey, Richmond & Viking Insurance. The game is additionally sponsored by a gift in memory of Harold Petty Arnold.
