Marble House Enamel Ornament
Marble House - 1892
National Historic Landmark - Marble House signaled Newport's transformation into a summer resort of opulent Gilded Age stone palaces. Built for William K. and Alva Vanderbilt by architect Richard Morris Hunt, using 500,000 cubic feet of marble in an array of colors, it was later used by Alva as the site of women's suffrage rallies.
