Hippodale the Plush Papillon
Inspired by a beloved pup of Newport’s Gilded Age

Meet Hippodale—an irresistibly soft and utterly charming plush Papillon, inspired by the real-life companion of Harry Symes Lehr and Elizabeth Drexel Dahlgren Lehr. From 1904 to 1916, the original Hippodale was more than a pet—he was practically royalty. You can even spot him immortalized in the magnificent Giovanni Boldini portrait hanging in the ballroom of The Elms!

In 1914, Hippodale was proudly registered with the New York Women’s League for Animals' Dog Brigade, a philanthropic group supporting a free animal hospital for pets in need—a legacy of compassion that lives on today.

Crafted with velvety-soft fur, perky ears, and a playfully wagging tail, our plush Hippodale is the perfect cuddle companion. Whether curled in your arm or presiding regally over your sitting room, he’s ready for his close-up—and perhaps even a portrait of his own.

Adopt Hippodale today and give him the pampered life he deserves—just as Lady Decies once did.

Note: His bespoke Jules Allard and Sons chair is, sadly, not included.
