Description

Lady Decies, maiden name "Bessie" Elizabeth Drexel, hailed from a Main Line Philadelphia society family. Her first marriage was to Harry Lehr at the urging of Mrs. Stuyvesant Fish, head of the Newport social scene during the 19th century. Lady Decies wrote at least two books including "Turn of the World" and "King Lehr and the Gilded Age." She wrote in detail about her nuptial honeymoon night, and how Harry became hopeless and sad in response to the reduction of social life when they were stuck in Paris during WWII. This is her story.
